The Challenge
Beside typical design and construction challenges involved with renovating an existing structure through adaptive use, this project had the added challenge of transforming unremarkable a 1920’s mercantile building into an event space with enough flexibility and character appropriate for anything from a sophisticated Halloween party to a memorable wedding ceremony and celebration.

The Result
The solution was in part hidden beneath the decades old finishes, which once remove revealed distinctive wood ceiling trusses and warmly colored rough structural clay block walls. The truss space provided an opportunity for completely tailorable lighting and sound systems and the large expanses of textured wall surfaces served as a backdrop for changing art and visual displays. An interior mezzanine over support areas provides additional intimate floor space and connects to an elevated terrace framed in exposed steel that boldly contrasts with tall wispy bamboo that bounds the exterior courtyard below.
